Well, if you compare GW and WCU in that regard it’s a wash. Both campuses empty out on the weekends. Both now have casinos within driving distance. Both have metropolitan toilet cities within driving distance. We’ve got fewer stoplights (1). That should give us the edge. Shelby does have a good bit of hotels due to the American Legion surge every year. That may play to our advantage. There is also an angle on the "team performance" side that could be argued with this being our second playoff season in a row and winning on the road last year and being two time conference winners. I think you can make an argument for GWU being only about 1hr away from bigger cities such as Charlotte and Greenville as well.

Would the committee put a theoretical WCU/GW winner matched up at high seeded Furman in round two, or do they avoid the possible SOCON rematch and instead send the winner out to Montana or the Dakotas for certain doom?
Putting the cart way before the horse here.

It’ll have to be a big donor to fork over $50-$100K on a whim. The students will be gone home, but I would hope we could draw well. A matchup with WCU would bring the biggest number. Speaking of Donors and Western Carolina, does David Brinkley ever donate to the football program? I see he donates a lot around GWU campus, most recently building that Amphitheater. I know he is WCU alumni and remember he built a new fieldhouse for WCU football team a few years ago, and I wonder if his ties there makes him hesitant to donate to GWU football. (I could be completely wrong).
