Last out of conference game before conference play. A very winnable game, a game where we should be able to build confidence. Heading into conference play at 4-3 overall is a must at this point. The conference as a whole in the past few weeks has really stepped up overall play:
CCU - top five in nation LU - fall to Richmond in OT, then shock at Appy in OT....formidable as always CSU - nearly beat an SEC foe, outgained them by over 100 yards MON - blowing people off field, over the 50 point mark in 3 of 6 games PC - shocker at Furman, gave Coastal fits last week, no longer predestined to lose them all
Let's trash the Keydets then head right back up I-81 to Falwellville the following week against what will be a rested LU team.

3 points for the predestined to lose comment. I love using that all the time when the Calvinists from Clinton are involved. A bunch of people miss the humor.

A W at VMI would at the very least get us off the 0-3 road streak we're on, but I'm not sure that that game is so critical heading into the Conference stretch. We played absolutely horribly at Citadel, then won the big one vs. the terriers at home. The obvious difference now is we have to hit the road up to Lynchburg the following week. I don't like the way the home-away has fallen this year. CSU for instance looks like a tough one now at their 'field', PC we would be favored at either place, then we travel up 95 to play Monmouth which is if nothing else putting a ton of points on the board.
The one element that has certainly improved under the new regime is the ability to rebound and play tough despite what might have occurred the previous game. So even if we get hung an L at Liberty, I expect us to give Coastal all they want at home, keeping it close into the 4th qtr. I expect that we'll split with CSU and MU on the road, with a W hosting PC and end up 2-3 in conference.
Beating Wofford and UNCC at home has made this a solid year to this point, so I'm very optimistic about the future of GWU football, especially considering the serious loss of talent we're dealing with thru transfer and injury.
Go Runnin' Bulldogs!

Go Runnin' Bulldogs! Considering the talent deficiency thru injury alone this year 6-6 or 7-5 would be a great year. Somehow we've been able to salvage what could easily have been a 1-5 start.

Take the win and get home. Up 31-13 heading into the 4th, let VMI score 21 straight, then tie it with a FG at the horn to force OT. Cook an absolute beast today with 12 catches and 251 yards.
We've got to get the idea through that the game is four quarters. This was almost a carbon copy of what happened in Charlotte last year. Big lead and stop playing.

Good job winning on the road. This team is maddening at times. We have had moments on defense where we look great and moments where we look awful. It was great to see our freshmen kicker step up in a big way and drill the one to send it to OT. Need to play much better with the 5 week gauntlet coming up in Big South Season.
