Yesterday, I was told we were hosting 5-6 recruits this weekend. The recruits and their families are going to love Coach Dickerson when they get to meet him. I would love to be a fly on the wall when Coach D addresses them. It's obviously going to be a thin signing day class. As much as we all want to complain about that, there is nothing that can be done at this late date. It is what it is.

Just curious, what is the point in hosting recruits when football isn't in season? Yea they can see the campus/student life etc, but still...no football

Bodoyle- it is so they can get a chance to meet Coach Dickerson and see what he is all about. Obviously it would be ideal to get them in during season, but clearly that is not a option if we want these players attending GW.

Typically, the month or so leading up to National Signing Day (the first Wednesday of February) are very busy recruiting visit weekends.

greetings from a Liberty fan from flamefans. Great to see you have a board. Anyway i have an account on scout.com and heres a few articles involving GWU ... "I'm visiting New Mexico State this coming weekend," Asuega told JCFootball.com recently. "I met with their staff here at Mt. SAC a couple of weeks ago and it went well. They haven't offered me yet, but they like me and want me to come up for a visit."
Other than his heavy interest from the Aggies, Asuega has heard from schools like Middle Tennessee, Oregon State, Hawaii and FCS power Gardner-Webb as well.
"I just want an opportunity to play ball," Asuega said. "I feel like I can help someone out, but I just have to find the right opportunity."
As a sophomore this fall, Asuega showed his outstanding quickness and strength, posting 27 tackles, six tackles-for-loss and five sacks while playing in the middle for the Mounties.
"I played the three and the one-tech spots for us this year," Asuega noted. "I have a quick first step and I play hard and I play all the way to the whistle.
"The coaches like my instincts and my explosion and I hope that helps me get some more attention."
Asuega is on pace to finish up his classes in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
Kapono Asuega Scout Profile
scouthoops.scout.com/2/1040818.html"I went up to Gardner-Webb for a visit a few weeks ago," Tanner Burch stated. "On the visit they told me that I have an offer on the table. They're definitely a team I'll consider. Their head coach, Steve Patton, use to coach my dad years ago. They play in the Southern Conference, probably the best conference in 1-AA. The school is only four hours away. I'd say they're my number two school right now.
"My leader right now is Vanderbilt. They haven't offered, but they've stayed in really close contact with me. Vanderbilt has the two majors that I'd like to pursue. They have a Physical Therapy, and Sports Medicine program. I think I'd be a good fit in their system.
"The other schools I like are Middle Tennessee, Troy, and Georgia Southern. Those schools are all even with each other."
All the signs point toward another 1-AA program from the Southern Conference tendering Burch a scholarship offer.
"I'm almost positive Georgia Southern will offer sometime in the near future," he commented. "I've gotten a handwritten letter from just about every coach on the staff. I got a handwritten letter from eight different coaches. They've talked about an offer several times when we've talked."
Burch has been in the closest contact with Vanderbilt of any D1A program. Another program from the Volunteer State is also interested in the South Georgia standout.
"Middle Tennessee said they really like my size and footwork," he said. "They saw me at Georgia's camp. They told me to make sure to call them as soon as I got back from the camp. I've talked to them a few times in the past few weeks. I'll head up there for a game sometime this fall."
Burch will have another chance to showcase his skills in Athens.
"Georgia has told me that they'd prefer to have me as a preferred walk-on," he commented. "On the other hand though, they're giving me one more shot. I'll be up there July 16th for a camp. They told me I'll have one more opportunity to prove I'm worth a scholarship."
Burch believes he has the measureables and the playing ability to compete at the highest level.
"I'd really like to play D1A more than anything," he said. "I know it sounds kinda selfish, but I'd like to be the first Savannah Christian player to sign a D1A football scholarship. I know I have the tools to at least play at the mid-major level, if not the major D1A level. I don't wanna close any doors, but part of me wants to compete at the highest level."
Pat McElveen Profile 2011 LB/S prospect Pat McElveen has made believers out of folks who've doubted him his entire career. During his senior season the Greenville High School standout has put the numbers up and earned the respect of the Shrine Bowl coaches to be selected for this year's team. We caught up with the talented Red Raider prospect for an update on the very latest and his thoughts about making the Shrine Bowl squad.
McElveen's first thoughts after finding out he'd made the Shrine Bowl team?
"It was shocking at first but also a great feeling to know I would be playing with the best in the state. I've always had a goal of and thought about playing in it because that's what all the great players out of South Carolina play in."
It's an opportunity that McElveen is looking forward to in order to help enhance his recruitment.
"I really feel like this could be big for me and it will show how I compete with the best out of both South Carolina and North Carolina."
It's been a huge senior season for McElveen as he's posted over 140 tackles and made 3 interceptions from his linebacker position. His best game of the year was proof of his all around ballhawking abilities for the Red Raiders.
"My best game was against Greer I had 15 plus tackles and a Interception and a sack
McElveen says there are number of schools who have him on their radar like Western Carolina, Tennessee State, Gardner Webb, Charleston Southern, Georgia Tech, and Michigan. A few of those schools have been stepping up their interest as of late and he's already visted a pair of programs from that list. A majority of the schools in the mix envision him at another position on the next level.
"Western Carolina, Gardner Webb, Charleston Southern, and Tennessee State are recruiting me the hardest right now I'd say. I've already visited Western Carolina and Tennessee State. I liked both of their campuses too. Most schools are recruiting me as a safety because I've got the speed and good hip movement."
McElveen says he's looking for a college where he can get a good education, that offers his major, and has a good football program.
Being in the Shrine Bowl there's plenty of talent at every position and we asked McElveen if there was anybody in particular that he looked forward to lining up against and competing with.
"There's so many great athletes on my team so I would say all of my linebacker corps and our secondary with Pat Martin. We grew up with each other and have been playing with each other forever, so it will be fun competing with him once again."
Stay tuned to SCPrepNation.com and the Scout.com team for more updates with Pat McElveen and other SC Shrine Bowl team members.

FUN FACTS...PAT MCELVEEN One thing people would be surprised to know about me....My age, because I'm very young. That I just turned 17. Player his style most resembles: Anthony Simmons because he wasn't the biggest guy but he would hit you. He was very athletic and played with a lot of speed.
recruiting.scout.com/2/1021221.html"Things are starting to pick up now that my season is over," Bakare told JCFootball.com recently. "I got my film done and I'm sending that out to some schools."
While a few schools are waiting for film, Bakare is getting heavy interest from a handful of others and two could be close to extending offers.
"East Carolina likes me and it sounds like in the next week or so, I could be getting an offer from them," Bakare said. "Wyoming also came out and saw us play and told my coaches they like me a lot and could be offering, but they haven't yet.
"The other schools that are showing me interest are Tennessee State, Toledo and Kansas State and Gardner Webb.
"Most schools like me as a strong safety and that's where I'm going to play when I get to the next level."
Bakare, playing outside linebacker for the Scotties, finished the season with 62 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery while being named 2nd Team All-KJCCC.
The talented athlete is on pace to finish up his AA in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.

Understand that Tanner Burch is solidly in the G-Dubb fold but he also was the only on-campus recruit for this the final weekend of the recruiting period and only G-Dubb Official Visit Weekend. I also heard that maybe one other recruit squeezed in a Friday only visit to G-Dubb before heading off to another visit. I don't have any info on this prospect. I've heard many posters on other forums and even AD Chuck Burch say they don't think this year's recruiting class will be impacted that bad by the late hiring of new HC Dickerson. When asked during his introductory press conference what would be his biggest challenge, Coach Dickerson without pause indicated recruiting. I'll have to go with the new HC on this one. Does anyone know of another D1 program that went thru the entire recruiting period leading up to Signing Day and only have 1 recruit come for a typical Weekend Official Recruiting Visit? Coach D will have to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat to build this year's Signing Class. I can see pressure building on next year's recruiting as this year's recruiting haul may be low in numbers.
I hope the new Football only S&C Coach is out of this world and that we turn the tables on the injury front from last season 180 degrees. We're gonna need those two things plus some good luck.

Good post Eagle. I do think everyone on here needs to understand that our signing day report is going to be very slim. It really won't do anyone any good to bad mouth our signing day class. I'm confident our staff will be all over those kids that didn't sign who were holding out hope for a D-IA offer that didn't arrive. Plus, with some new guys coming in it is likely they will have some players willing to follow them to GW. I recall Coach Godinez convincing Olivas and Pemasa to follow him from California. Wouldn't it be nice to get some more kids like that on our team?

Yes, if we can get the quality and immediate impact of players after Signing Day of Olivas and Pemasa then absolutely quality trumps quantity. On the other hand, I understand that we were looking to sign 3 to 4 OL and 3 to 4 WR's and I would pleasantly surprised if we end up bringing in more than 2 at each of those spots. This year's haul will be slim in numbers most likely and thus my supposition that it builds more pressure on next year's recruiting efforts. We will have a large numbers of Jrs and RJrs, SRs and RSrs in the two deep this upcoming season.

I heard they've been really going to work on the recruiting in the past few days. LOTS of California studs and some more studs coming from further south, probably with Coach Dickerson. I believe keeping coach G was the best thing Coach Dickerson could have done. Also look forward to seeing who else he will be bringing to GW!

I know many GW fans will be disappointed that our 5:00 signing day notice is not going to have very many names on it. I will be disappointed too. I agree with Dogeatdog that keeping Coach G is a positive for us with his California contacts. There are lots of guys out there looking to play D-I football. With not a lot of effort last year, he brought 2 defensive starters in Olivas and Freshman of the year Pemasa. I also think it was important to keep Coach Cunningham and Coach Chris Foster as those guys have the contacts throughout GA, SC, NC, and TN to draw the talent that GW needs.
The kids that will be left now will be those guys who have been told "if _____ doesn't sign, you will be able to get his place." After getting over that disappointment, these kids will get to meet Coach Dickerson. I truly believe that they will be overwhelmed by our new HC when they meet him. After months of being strung along by the bigger programs, they are going to meet a coach who genuinely cares about them and really wants them to join his quest to improve the football program at GW. I am really interested in seeing how this process plays out.

You give me a team full of players that: 1) have an I am third attitude 2) have a real passion to win 3) have the guts to show it in the off-season, and I will beat a team of selfish but more talented players all day long.

I am hearing that we may be a couple of weeks from getting an official recruiting report from GW. There is still quite a bit of optimism that it will be a quality class.

Savannah newspaper confirms that LB Tanner Burch signed his LOI with GW yesterday.
Atlanta paper reports that Dunwoody LB Aaron Easterling got an offer on signing day from Gardner-Webb. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound linebacker got an official offer from Gardner-Webb and will make an official visit to the school next weekend.
I could not find any other news from the Charlotte and Raleigh newspapers.
