Opening a new thread for people to opine on. Add in your .02. This decision is so critical for our school you can't put a price on it.

Can't even hear any names rumored yet. Makes you wonder what the committee is up to.

We need a fundraiser, maybe. And someone focused on more than promoting us as just one more Christian university. I understand that it's a niche for us, but it's also self-limiting.

Yes, we need a fundraiser, but we need to be careful. Chris White was a great fundraiser. He was also an insufferable prick and morally bankrupt.

I find this comment interesting. I do not feel that GWU does the "christian university" thing well. North Greenville, Anderson, and Liberty are dominating us in recruiting students. Honestly, I think the issue is that GWU has honestly tried to be all things for all people. Meaning that GWU lacks a true identity and people can tell.

Even if you hire a great fundraiser, it's very hard to raise money when the school has no real identity and is totally mediocre in academics and athletics. Bonner did nothing to build the GWU brand, never understood strategic investments and institutionalized mediocrity.

Mediiocre academics? I guess being named one of the nations best Christain Universities and having an oft recognized nursing school and buissness program means nothing? As for the search it self, n email the other day said they had a short list

Let's hope the search committee will think outside the box and hire a Godly leader with experience outside of higher ed. The last thing we need is another tired, lifelong academic.

We've got to get this hire right. In order to do so, it's got to be an outsider. Will that happen is the big question.

I've heard two rumored names from sources that have nothing at all to do with GW whatsoever. If credible and true, one word would sum up either of the names mentioned....underwhelming.
I'm not going to put stock in that, like I said before, once the on campus visits start happening, then we will get a clearer picture, one can hope anyway.

May be difficult to recruit a top talent given the mess Bonner is leaving for his replacement. Terrible morale and lowest enrollment in more than a decade. Let's hope I'm wrong.

I don't necessarily think we do the Christian university thing well--and, frankly, I wish we wouldn't sell our school in that self-limiting way--but it has to be said that by any objective measure (not to mention the more widely read rankings, like those by U.S. News), GWU is academically ahead of all three of those schools. And I think most people would tell you that Liberty is at the bottom of the pile. Whether our next president is demonstrably "a Godly man" is, I hope, not something high on the list of considerations for the search committee.

It should be after all GWU is a Christian School.

To GWUalum. I believe most people would define "Godly man" as someone with integrity, character,a servant leader mindset, and an understanding that depending on God for wisdom and discernment is always better than depending on your own abilities. You're saying these qualities shouldn't be high on the list of considerations for the search committee? Really? What kind of leader would you prefer?
