No. I don't see it. However, Campbell does have them, so there is precedent. This school needs money badly, kids are leaving because of a non college atmosphere, I understand we are a Christian school but if they want more money in the school they need to consider adding frats to get more students and more money from the costs of frats. Out of the box thinking that our dumb Board of Trustees will never permit.

We need a fundraiser, maybe. And someone focused on more than promoting us as just one more Christian university. I understand that it's a niche for us, but it's also self-limiting. I find this comment interesting. I do not feel that GWU does the "christian university" thing well. North Greenville, Anderson, and Liberty are dominating us in recruiting students. Honestly, I think the issue is that GWU has honestly tried to be all things for all people. Meaning that GWU lacks a true identity and people can tell. GWU can learn a lot from Liberty. Their monetary wealth is staggering. Apparently GWU is not much better off than we were in the early 1990s. I remember paint peeling off the buildings because they were trying to save money. No way to recruit with buildings looking like that.

The only thing GWU can learn from Liberty is what not to do #evilempire #gwurealbaptistschool

Come on Jake08. Liberty... evil empire? How about highly successful and growing. Can you say 'jealous"? You may not agree with all that Liberty does, but you can't ignore their success. Leadership and a forward thinking board my friend. Something that GWU hasn't had for decades.

Not jealeaus. If having a holier than thou attitude and look down thier noses at other schools by saying that they are the real baptist school and then getting on thier messege boards and calling GWU a bunch of sodimites gives them "success" then I dont want it. If I had kids I would not want them at Liberty I know some great folks that are associated with Liberty, but thier whole attitude makes me mad and I dont get mad that easily

A handful of stupid comments on a message board is no reason to dislike Liberty as a university. You can find someone making dumb comments anywhere. GWU would do well to look at the things that Liberty does well and not zero in on a handful of things they may disagree with. Who cares about "Baptist school" as long as real Christian values and not politically correct positions are the soul of the school?

Well, it's Dr. William Downs, currently a Dean at ECU, apparently at Georgia State before that. I'll link it later, but reading on the ECU website, he sounds like a far lefty.
Zero background in any small school and not any high level administrative background either. How that translates to fundraising, etc. we will find out. Hopefully he isn't a puppet of our lousy Board of Trustees, the lack of high level administrative experience an obvious concern, but if the man can raise coin and treat people fair and with respect it will be a refreshing change.

How can this guy raise money is the question. Since the whole hiring process was completely shielded from view of staff, faculty, students, alumni, etc. it makes confidence in the choice naturally wane. Moving from a public institution background to a Christian-founded liberal arts school is a complete 180. Let's see what he can do.

I'm with gwebb1994: Let's see what he can do. The idea that he's a far Left guy seems dubious to say the least, though; our BOT is too right-slanted for that even to be a possibility. I'm just happy that he doesn't appear to be someone hired only for his being a Christian. The university needs something more than that.

The write-up on the new GWU president Dr. Downs is lame and underwhelming. Let's hope he's more talented than these articles indicate. Sure looks like we've just hired someone who fits the same old, tired profile. . .lifetime academic with no other outside experience, no mention of fundraising experience, no experience with collegiate athletics, etc. His stated experience in starting and managing academic programs will be of little help in addressing the many serious issues at GWU. Our problems aren't with academic programs. We need REAL leadership and forward thinking that is unlikely to come from a lifetime academic with no other experience. Let's hope I'm wrong but I have zero confidence in our board's ability to pick the right person for the job.
