What a week ago looked like a chance at a relatively easy road win now will definitely be a challenge in a hostile atmosphere after CSU pulled the conference shocker of the season Saturday winning at LW, and by 12 after leading early in the second half by 19. We beat them back over Christmas break here by 20. CSU does have the second highest scoring offense in the league, but they have the next to the last scoring defense. Harris, Jr. leads them at 18.7 ppg, had 23 at LW the other night. I'd assume we play alot more man in this game, so Selden and Nicholas will have to clamp down on him. We need to shoot a bit better from distance in this one. We've improved greatly protecting the basketball, and we must continue.
Definition of a trap game for the women hosting CSU after a huge win at HPU and another key road game at the Calvinists Saturday. CSU is 2-8 in conference and 4-17 overall, and 0-11 on the road this season. They had lost 13 straight, but have won their last two, both 4 point wins at home against WU and defending champ LW. We beat them by 21 down there in the conference opener, no reason to think a repeat shouldn't happen, but we best not be looking ahead, keep the winning streak going.
Men's Standings:
1. UNCA 9-1
2. RU 8-2
3. LW 7-3
4. GW 6-4
5. WU 5-5
6. CU 4-6
UPSTATE 4-6
CSU 4-6
9. HPU 2-8
10. PC 1-9
Other Wednesday/Thursday games:
RU at PC
LW at WU
UPSTATE at CU
HPU at UNCA (ESPNU Thursday)
If WU wins and we win, things tighten a bit behind the top two. The loser in Buies Creek will have a uphill climb to a bye spot in the top six.
