this is a d1 sports program. Fighting happens when you care about winning. Do we want every team to fight every season? of course not but one chippy game every once in a while should be expected for successful programs. Holtmann ran a pretty tight ship with the basketball program and i can remember a post season game verse EKU that got pretty chippy well before the days of Downs presidency. Good programs fight to win and sometimes that brings an aggressiveness that causes a different type of fighting. Just dont make it a habit.

Sorry, my phone does not have my log in information. I think you are way off on Downs.Great guy. not as conservative as some would like but the fruit is still there. As for Setzer he won plenty of big games vs Ranked teams Furman NC State Clemson ect. That should not be discounted.. As for the red card, we actually had two, that were ejected one for two yellows And the other was a straight red for fighting period I really like the results coach wells is getting but They are not worth it if it tarnishes the reputation of our university Jake the "christian reputation" of our university was tarnished a long time ago by Downs predecessor and the direction he led the Divinity school and department of religious studies.

More importantly, how the heck do you allow the winning goal with two seconds left?

Another Day another Red Card What are you trying to imply Jake? Did you watch the match? The second yellow on Brown wasnt dirty or malicious.

I'm saying that's 2 reds in the last 3 matches. In my 20 plus years of following GWU soccer, I only remember 3 total under Setzer. This has to stop. We are a Christain University. We don't want or need a reputation as a "Dirty Program" Leave that for Liberty and turn the other cheek

It was simply a player being going for a tackle and he made contact with the opponents boot. There was nothing dirty about it. Just happened to be that players second yellow card. Your supposed to be a journalist. It may help to watch the game before writing your opinions on the box score. You may also want to check your memory. 2021 we had 3 red cards. 2022 we had 2 red cards. Thats 5 in the past two seasons. Setzer wasnt quite the Messiah man you are painting him to be. Might want to check the log in your eye before addressing the specks.

According to the Live stat/ Box score it was not a second yellow but a straight red for a "Bad Foul" That's soccer lingo for dirty play. They just don't put that on the live stats. Look at the other cautions it just says "Foul"

I found the box and Brown was not issued a second yellow and then a red It was a straight red. That only happens for dangerous fouls. I can not find where it said bad foul in the box score but I remember it flashing up on livestats when I was going back and forth between the footall and scoccer games. As I said I'm pleased with results, we just need to clean things up and quickly

If my math is correct we are lower on the table at this point than we were at this same time last year. Maybe Setzer wasn't the terrible coach some people thought

Tony had 30 years. I’d guess he had fewer than 10 winning seasons, he had a few good years when we were D-2… he had a pipeline of semi-pro players from Trinidad. After we went D-1 he couldn’t keep players. In the 4 years I was at GW he’d graduate 1 or 2 players a year. He’d bring in 10 or 15 freshmen each year and 90% would leave. Some would transfer at Christmas. He had one good year in 2006. Give the new coach a chance to build something and if he can’t we should move on sooner than we did from Tony.

Correction... 35 years... Setzer spent 35 seasons in charge of the men's soccer program and finished with a career record of 234-375-46...
