Spent the last 5 seasons at Tiffin where he went 40-11. Has spent time in the Carolinas at Elon.
Another young up and coming coach in the mold of Lamb. Seems like a solid hire on the surface!

Decent and cheap, underline cheap. After the stunt Downs pulled, nobody with any real experience on the FCS level would seriously give us a look.
I wish him well. He’ll need it.

What stunt? Playoff bid? Didn’t matter. Weren’t getting a bid if they threw $100k at the thing. Nowhere to stay closer than Charlotte or GSP.
Strong hire I agree with the OP. He better get some assistants hired up and hit the recruiting trail. Time to rebuild the roster.

Love the underlying veiled shots at Lamb in the statement. Typical Downs.
Yes, making an effort to bid is something coaches should expect after busting their asses for four years with little administrative support. Recruits know this as well.
Reisert has a huge challenge ahead. It’ll be interesting to see if any Tiffin players follow him, especially on offense.
The fact he has been a HC is a positive.

Gotta be honest, it's a little disappointing considering the quality winning coaches within 2 hours.
Reisert was 40-11 at Tiffin - 32-4 in conference, 8-7 OOC. Tiffin's conference is the GMAC, which is a weak, weak D2 conference. Tiffin went undefeated this year, got a first round bye in the D2 playoffs, then lost in 2nd round at home. Not impressive - similar to Benedict in the SIAC (ran the reg season table 2 yrs straight and promptly got boat-raced out of playoffs at home both years).
I'm sure Reisert is a nice fella, otherwise GW wouldn't have talked with him. But the right man for this job? If we're gonna go get a D2 coach, what about the HCs at Lenoir-Rhyne, Limestone, Newberry, North Greenville, even Valdosta St or W Florida?

Consider me not impressed on the surface. Didn't exactly light D2 up and isn't local either. Lamb brought ideas and a football pedigree at least. Mostly just would love to know who else interviewed if we had to settle for a middling D2 coach with no local connections.

They lost by 10 in their playoff game. Nothing to be ashamed of there. Weak or not, 88% winning isn’t laboring.
Newberry and NGU coaches are probably too old for the top dog’s taste. Valdosta coach will probably take his Alma maters head job. Lenoir Rhyne has a bigger budget than both the remaining big south schools. West Florida has fallen way off from their Shinnick days. Limestone guy is interesting and interviewed. Must not have gone good enough.
Best d2 coach in the Carolinas right now is Bobby Lamb. Also older but a much better coach than the rest. He is sitting on a gold mine though.
Not surprising to go with a similar formula as last go round. Young guy with big offense. I would anticipate some larger offensive linemen from Cleveland and Cincinnati coming down soon.

Head coach from a top20 program at any level is a good pick up.

We have known since Lamb left it wasn’t going to be a local guy. When admin announced the search firm that was clear. You don’t hire a search firm to take you to Hickory or Spartanburg for your next coach. 40-11 with 5 of those loses coming in one season in 2022. Responded by going undefeated until the playoffs.

Sorry guys, I'm just not sold yet. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm just not sold on this hire yet.

I’d love to know how much we paid a search firm to hire a D2 coach. Something any decent AD could do on their own.

Probably $1.2 million dollars.

So what are the odds that any of our current players in the transfer portal now may reconsider and stay with our new coach?
