I spoke with a member of the faculty yesterday. And they were very upset that they are cutting the philosophy department all the way out at Gw While we are spending quote Tons me some money on Athletics. However they are restarting the Journalism Department and the Student Paper so that's good news

Journalism never should have been mothballed to begin with. Dr. Bill Stowe put a lot of time and effort into building it up back in the day.

Good. We can use some actual journalists in the United States. Lowest approval rating of any major profession, even Congress (if that's a professioin).

even Congress (if that's a professioin). Oh it is, have no doubt. Just show me one example of any of those 535 elected bastards on Capitol Hill that when they’ve finally left DC, left poorer.

There was hardly a philosophy department to cut. It had already been merged into the department of religious studies. Additionally the professor left a couple months ago (after decades at GWU) to enter into ministry with the episcopal church. He was the only professor in the department for the last 15 years. I knew two philosophy majors my whole time at GWU. If a program is bringing students to gardner-webb they arent going to cut it. The simple fact is there are very few high schoolers interested in philosophy and they arent coming to gardner-webb. With the chair of the department gone it was the perfect time to move in a different direction.
Sounds like a much wiser decision to begin a journalism department.
