Just heard from a faculty member that GWU is having trouble paying their bills. They were told not to run heaters in their offices, but instead bring blankets to stay warm and save money on electricity bill

We've been bleeding money ever since Downs blew nearly a million dollars on that botched deal with Apple a few years ago that few know about.
Massive faculty and staff turnover since 2019 when he came in, morale as low if not lower than in the last days of the Chris White tenure.
Yet he keeps his job? Any other CEO or President would have been shown the door by now.

More proof that the athletics department is short staffed. 4 hours to game time and nothing on the website about the baseball opener, not even game notes. Not a good optic.

The school regularly has stretches where an emphasis is placed on cutting off lights more often and using less heat or AC in buildings. That isn’t a new thing at all. Not a sign of struggle more than any other year over the past 20-30. Trying to stretch a buck.
Your faculty pals seem to whine a bit too much, but that’s also not unusual. It’s what they do between class and “office hours”.
All small private schools are going to have major challenges in the next five years. Google search the terms enrollment cliff or admissions cliff. Less people available for colleges to pursue for enrollment. Coming soon.
GW is in far better shape than many of its regional peers. Some of those schools won’t survive.

I find this petition almost laughable. First of all,GWU Has improved in many areas under The current president. More academic scholarships. More agreements with community college Which increases enrollment. Record doners and gifts to The University Better dining And food options not to mention Any athletic success I have failed doctor downs and Others in the administration to be very approachable. I admit it change is hard. Do I like or agree with all the changes that have happened Since doctor downes came to town? No of Course not. Do I think that garden webb is a better for students and alumni Than it was When I was there twenty years ago? Yes

The petition is a joke because the BOT doesn’t give two shits about what you or I think, only major donors, and you can count those on one hand. The BOT would be the ones making a change and that apparently isn’t in their plans.
The fact remains is the massive amount of faculty and staff turnover since 2019, and the way former employees have been treated. The locals despise Downs for a myriad of reasons, and local support is in the toilet as a result.

Lots of locals at the game last night. Best attendance of the year 1,200+. Too bad the performance was not up to par. I consider myself a major donor because every time I do it feels major to my wallet LOL

Student attendance is dismal with the new seating arrangement. I’m sure Downs will blame Craft for that when he lets him go in two weeks. I never expect us to ever fill that building since it’s old and the design even when new was not fan friendly, but the lack of student participation compared to just last year and before is noticeable. |
