First time visitor. I found Gardner Webb while searching for a school for my son to attend. He plans to major in finance/business and would like to also play football. Sent in his Jr highlights to the coaching staff hopefully they like what the see. What can you guys tell me about Gardner Webb's academics, athletics, the town and surrounding area?
Thanks

I was a business major, and the business school has grown in size and academically by leaps and bounds over the past decade. The Dean of the Broyhill School of Management, Dr. Anthony Negbenebor, is a great person, I had an economics course with him during my days. He is accessible enough to the point if you dropped him an e-mail and asked questions he would reply for sure.
Boiling Springs has one stoplight, and G-W is the town, plain and simple. When school is out and campus is empty, Boiling Springs goes back to being a one stoplight town. Equidistant basically from Charlotte, Asheville, and the GSP metro area.
Athletics and academics pretty much intertwine since as far as on-campus students are concerned, you can say maybe half of the total number are involved with athletics in some capacity or another, be it player, trainer, whatever. G-W has grown extensively, but you still have that personal touch and relationship with professors, staff, etc. where they know your name. It is awesome to go back on campus 15+ years later and run into faculty and staff that are still there from my time and be able to just converse like it was 15+ years ago.
PM me if you want anymore insight from an alumnus, I'd be glad to help.

Thanks for the post MB. GW is a great place for your son. Although, we need to know your ideas as to what is a good school for your son. Where are you guys from, what is your son's academic situation and that sort of thing. GW is more academically oriented than the typical school. Our new coach is going to make us more competitive athletically. Ultimately, you and your son will not be able to make a good decision without visiting GW's campus and I hope you will do that soon.
Go Runnin' Bulldogs!

Go Runnin' Bulldogs! My son's gpa is 3.91 unweighted / 4.13 weighted. He didn't do as well as we hoped on his act 21 but plans to retake this summer. He's in the National Honor Society and has been on the President's and/or Principal's list every semester. We are from a small town Thibodaux which is located in south Louisiana. Athletic wise he plays defensive tackle.....1st team all district and 2nd team all region as a sophomore and 1st team all district and 1st team all region as a jr. He's 6'-1", 260lbs, bench 405, squat 425, 5.25 -40. He's also the 1st baseman on the baseball team.
