Are you implying that a drop in clasification is coming with the new President?

Seems like that is in play. No clue how the BOT is leaning about the possibility.

We met Coach Simpson during my son's first recruiting visit. He was an impressive ambassador for GWU athletics. Very well regarded within the swimming community, I wish him and his family well. Yes, it is a head scratcher --- the program's only head coach, building it from scratch, accepts an assistant position in Columbia... '94, was there a release by the GWU SI dep't??? If not, unfathomable, not to mention inexcusable

On the surface, I can see how it would look like a head scratcher, but the reality is that the HC job at GWU could be brutal. Because of the combined men's and women's team size and the small pool, the coaches had to run several practices per day to get everyone through. It wasn't uncommon to see coach start the day at a 5:30 am practice and finish at 7:30 pm. I have to imagine a jump to the SEC was attractive: fewer hours, potentially more money, fewer headaches that come along with being the big boss, and the chance to coach Olympians. All the best Coach Mike! You deserve this one!

There are a bunch of NAIA and D3 schools whose Sports Information Departments run circles around ours.

For sure. I'm so sick of GWU's "well, he's a nice guy" mentality for keeping people in jobs they're bad at. With a few exceptions (fewer now with the two swim coaches' departures), that basically describes the athletics department (Craft, Elliot, and a few others excepted).

We had better pray to God the BOT looks outside for the new President. Another good old boy BOT ass kisser and GW may very well go belly up.

Sadly this isn't hyperbole. There are many good, competent people working at GWU (and many who aren't either of those things), but there is no circumstance, no person smart enough, to justify an in-house hire here. The financial shape of the university starts at the top, but responsibility trickles down through various departments that will be left largely unchanged by an in-house leader. New leadership, new vision, and a loyalty to the health of the institution over a few good people who you would feel bad firing.
