Enjoyed the trip to the Playboy #1 party school in the country - Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Unfortunately, Athens, Ohio does not offer a lot in the way of middle-aged adult entertainment - except for college football. I thought Ohio was going to be very tough to beat and for one quarter - the 2nd quarter - it was awful. Ohio has a very good football team, but for the last 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter, we made some pretty bad mental mistakes that allowed Ohio to put this one away. It was encouraging to see our kids come back after halftime and regroup and hold Ohio to just 2 FGS in the 2nd half. Last year's team would likely have seen this game turn into a 50 point slaughter.
The offense had a very difficult time getting anything going. I don't recall seeing much in the way of plays that we didn't use in the Brevard game and I am hopeful that we are not becoming overly predictable. It seemed like Ohio had us boxed in pretty well and the offense did not do much to really stretch the field. I am hopeful that we are seeing a situation where we are slowly expanding the playbook as the offense gets comfortable with the new scheme.
The day got started with a high school band competition and lots of local bands came out on the field to play the National Anthem with the Ohio marching band. This made for quite a large crowd that would not have otherwise been present - something for the GWU powers that be to consider for a future game.
Coach Dickerson led our boys onto the field on a beautiful fall-like afternoon.
Tre Perry continues to be Chandler Browning's go to guy. One of our problems early in the game was that catchable passes were not being caught. This caused us to become one dimensional [run game] early and allowed Ohio to keep our offense boxed in for most of the game.
Our defense continued to make it difficult for other teams to pass the ball.
Devin Johnson continues to be a beast on defense. At 14.5 tackles per game, Devin is currently #3 in the FCS and #1 in the Big South!
Lyndrez Leslie also continues to show that he came to play in 2011. Here, he forced the QB to cough up the ball so we could take it away from them.
Kenny Little continues to be a solid runner, gaining almost 100 yds at Ohio.
Ricky Rhodes can fly when he gets an open field and is doing a great job on punt return and kickoff return [avgs 25 yds per return].
