Well, it's time to get back on the road to watch our Runnin' Bulldogs take on the Bulldogs of Samford University. I don't know about you guys, but I am ready to get back to BS for a home contest.
It's difficult to get any idea about where we should park and that sort of thing. There appears to be a large parking lot right at the stadium. I'm hoping to be there around noon eastern time [understanding that we pick up an hour due to the time change while travelling]. It's going to be Parents Weekend on Saturday and it appears that Samford has lots going on. Whether that means more or less people in the stands will remain to be seen.
This should be a fairly decent test of where our program is after getting whooped up on by two very good D-I teams. I look forward to seeing everyone in Homewood.
Go Runnin' Bulldogs!

Ms Eagledawg and I are making the trek to Birmingham on Friday and will be checking things out as to where we all might gather up for our tailgate. It's quite a haul from Winston-Salem, somewhere along the lines of 8 hrs. We plan on staying at the Hilton Perimeter Park in hopes of getting a chance to spend a small bit of time with #71. After the game, it's back on the road to at least Greenville, SC if not all the way home.
I believe Saturday will be a defining game for our squad. We need to put together a complete game to see where we are as a team and with the new schemes. UNK96 said it well in another thread, Offense, Defense and Special Teams have all showed promise and good execution at times but we need to string together 4 solid quarters in all 3 phases of the game. Samford is struggling too so I expect a Dawg Fight as our Running Bulldogs take on the Bulldogs, an intended pun of course.

Pound the rock and control the clock. Keep the ball away from their somewhat potent offense. We have shown the ability to run well, but we haven't scored a TD since the opener, which is a concern, despite the level of competition we played. Pull out a big-time W and have good momentum starting the conference slate against an LU team in some bit of disarray, both on and off the field.

Well, this is the first time this year I would say I was dissapointed. We definately should have had a better game than this. The by week looked like it really hurt us. Things we have to do.1.learn to block on a punt. every team right now will be after our punter. We just do a bad job. Kick off coverage. We give up way too many yards. We got hurt the most when we had them in 3rd and long and 4th and long. You cant let people get behind you so easy. Man, Our defense played great unless they were 3rd and longer than 20,then we got burnt. Our passing game has got to improve. Its never just one thing. Its dropped passes one moment, bad passes the next, bad route running the next, and no aggression to go get the ball the next. Obviously the ability is there, its just not coming together. Running the ball seems to be what we do best. But that little push to the outside blocking scheme and run behind that has not worked yet. Not one time that I have seen. Some linemen need to get a little more consistent. Great block one moment and a whiff the next. Folks, its frustrating because if you actually watch, all the pieces are there. We are so close, but we keep shooting ourselves in the foot. Hopefully we will get it together and be ready for Liberty!! But we have to have everyone on board and clicking. If we do, no doubt we could run the table from here on out. So lets go Dawgs, lets get it on!!

Should have played a whole lot better coming off of a bye week. The poor special teams play has to be a concern. However, Samford is still an unknown quantity, since their losses were against Wofford and Georgia Southern. That set of Bulldogs may be a bit better than people think.
We have 7 games left. Going 4-3 in them and finishing 5-6 should be the expectation at this point, considering two of them are against Virginia State and CSU, two teams we should manhandle, and two more are very winnable despite being on the road at VMI and PC. I don't see us beating Liberty, Stony Brook, or Coastal at this point.

Good post Unk. I would love to see how the outcome would have been different if we had avoided the blocked punt/TD at the beginning of the game. D gave up a lot of passing yds and we seemed to have great difficulty stopping their #2. Nothing about Samford seemed very athletic, but, they sure put a whipping on GW. Here's hoping the staff can tweak our schemes to make us a little more competitive in Big South play or else we end up going down the path outlined by 94.
Go Runnin' Bulldogs!

Can you name this great Runnin' Bulldog QB? A blazing time was recorded on Friday, April 29, with three different watches timing in the 4.3-second range. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound standout returns to lead what should be a potent offense for Gardner-Webb in 2005. He has passed for 4,611 yards and 32 touchdowns during his last two seasons as a full time starter, and has added 756 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns during his career. He is currently fifth on the Bulldogs career passing list heading into the 2005 campaign. The Springville, Alabama native was a first-team All-Big South quarterback in 2003, and earned second-team honors at the position in 2004. Extend your weigh room and field practice times Bulldogs.

Fellow, please do not misundrstand my post. I dont know what our record will end up. That depends on how our guys execute. But I am saying that if you watch the games closely and look at it from a where are we at standpoint, we can beat Liberty and Stoney Brooke no problem. We do have the talent to beat these guys. I disagree with some. Samford did not whip our butts, we whipped our butts. If we stop being our own worse enemy, we could win out,we do have the talent to do it. But we have to get our mind in the game and play accordingly. So, we could be on our way!! But it is up to us. we have been getting better but last Saturday was a set back. Lets get going guys. You can win it all if you play the way you are capapble of!!!!!
