Go in with the mindset to compete, but pull the plug quickly and rest if the score gets out of hand.
Liberty is 5-1 with their only loss by a point at Wake Forest, where they went for two and the win late and didn’t convert instead of playing for OT. Impressive that they’ve had zero drop off after losing a player like Willis on the offensive side.
Maybe they come out flat looking ahead to hosting the Baptist/Mormon clash against BYU next week. Wishful thinking I’m afraid.

This matchup is somewhat concerning for a few reasons (and no, this is not Lou Holtz-type talk here):
-GW's only losses against premier FBS or solid FCS programs this year. Taking Coastal down to the wire on their turf is impressive. -LU has a QB situation that none of us are comfortable with (1st and 2nd stringers out with injuries). Opponents have kept it close with us despite our success on defense -everyone is anticipating the BYU matchup the following week. looking ahead could hurt us in this one
Game could be close thru the 3rd qtr. Its not unrealistic to think we put in our 2nd QB (who is a very good, young talent but with the lesser-injury) at some point to try and put up some points.
Could be a trap game for us.

Oh Lord someone check on Jake. This post just gave him some thoughts and feelings that if he acted on them he would be in violation of the Gardner-Webb student code of conduct.

Or the alumni code of conduct in Jake's case. He's been sticking pins in his Falwell doll all week I bet.

Welcome, Flames_Guy. We're hoping, I think, to avoid serious injury and keep the game respectable.

I think we have a small but legitimate chance to beat Liberty. I was at the last game liberty played against at home as well as a few other games we played them. They always had high graded “talent”, but the games always managed to be close. If only we still had Tyrell Maxwell lol. But I think we pull this one out 24-21.
Destroy me in the comments when this doesn’t happen.
Thoughts on Matthew Caldwell?

We can compete, as proven at Coastal. Maybe we can catch them looking ahead to their game with BYU next week. I'm thinking LU 38-17. They're good, especially with playing musical chairs at the QB position this season thus far.

I've coached Quiz Bowl against Gardner-Webb and love your school. If you all make the trip to Lynchburg, try to find our Country Smoak (not a typo) food truck that sells the best BBQ in town!
Good luck, and may the best team win.

Prepare a party in case we need to do a welfare check on Jake, fear half and we only trail 14-10.

I know we should be proud of our guys for taking an FBS team down to the wire, but is anyone else exhausted by these close-but-no-cigar finishes? Just once I'd like to see us finish a team off!
Don't mean to sound down on our team. Just frustrated.

Hopefully we've learned enough to run the table in conference play and get a playoff berth.

Congrats on a well fought battle. GW certainly showed they belong. The passing attack is legit. DLineman were no joke either. We just couldnt run on you guys. Maybe its time you boys consider a move up to Bowl Subdivision? Don't know if it's in the works or has been talked about... but anyways, have fun raking CharSou over the coals this weekend. the remaining slate looks pretty good for you guys.
Best of luck, -FG
