Western Carolina has announced a press conference for tomorrow to name their new head football coache. Their message board along with App. State's Mountaineer Message Board and ASU Rivals site appear to indicate that ASU Assistant Coach Mark Speir will be named the Catamounts new HC. He was also recruiting coordinator for ASU and has extensive contacts in the western part of North Carolina. He is said to be bringing 3 ASU assistants with him to WCU. This hire will hurt ASU's recruiting and help WCU's recruiting which may be a net loss for G-Dubb if WCU and G-Dubb have some of the same targets (we don't get many ASU targets if they get an ASU offer). Speir would no doubt improve the Cats program. As a football junkie, I like this hire for WCU better than Coastal's hire of Joe Moglia. I also think the end is near for Jerry Moore at ASU, especially if they do transition to FBS in the next 3 years.
It's good to see what these area FCS competitors will do facing the same situation that G-Dubb did last year prior to naming Coach Dickerson as our new HC. With that said, they are getting it done almost a month ahead of the pace that we did so it will be interesting to see how it affects their recruiting. The Quiet Periods are December 18, January 8 and the Dead Periods are Dec 19-Jan 3 and Jan 9-12.

Good hire for WCU. Moore is close to hanging it up in Boone. The CCU hire of Moglia is an absolute joke.
