November 2011: from the U.S. Census Bureau The average teen-unemployment rate in the United States (ages 16 to 19) in November 2011 was 23.7 percent. Some states had significantly higher rates. The five worst states for teen unemployment (including the District of Columbia) were: 1) District of Columbia 48.3 percent 2) California 34.6 percent 3) Nevada 34.2 percent 4) North Carolina 33.3 percent 5) Missouri 33.1 percent 6) Washington 30.9 percent Hey kids, get mom & dad to move to a better state for jobs
