Yea hat is really starting to smell.......this year it is loaded. Maybe time to get a different look HC wise to generate some life. Talent is there. You don't know much about what the GWU Athletic Dep't. thinks of Rusty Stroupe if you make a statement like that. He'll coach until he decides to hang it up. Remember what Elcid stated over and over about the funding of GW athletics. We have a very nice baseball stadium, but we're still operating under the constraints of a very tight budget. Things that many of our peers take for granted just don't exist at GW funding-wise, and it takes a toll in ways that can't be appreciated if you don't have an 'inside' perspective, trust me.

Yeah, my bad, rained out today. Raining like a cow urinating on a flat rock here in Shelby.
Right now, we are a half game ahead of CSU for the final spot in the conference tourney, and one game behind PC for the 7th spot. Next weekend's three game series....we are at HPU, CSU is at RU, and PC hosts Longwood. The regular season finale series here against PC is shaping up to be huge.

I've never seen that, but I don't live in Shelby, either.
Yeah, since I think we can pretty much eliminate: VMI, UNC-A, and Winthrop, we'll need to finish better than one other team to make the Tourney. As you stated, CSU has a very tough last 2 series, at Radford and hosting Coastal. Longwood is now 10-10, and with them playing PC, someone is gonna be under .500. I'd bet we can go 3-3 and make it in , the odds favor that. Its gonna be a tough road series at High Point, would love to come out of there 2-1. Certain guys are heating up at the plate, we really need solid innings out of the pen, which haven't come with much consistency ever since the UNCW game. We've got the ingredients to win any game we play, so just hoping it comes together at the right times for us.

Winthrop is very much still in this thing. They have VMI and UNCA left. The way they have played of late could possibly go 6-0, 5-1, or 4-2, I see them winning both series. The key for GWU the last two series will be decision making and execution at the plate which has been Achilles heel entire year. Longwood has surprised everyone this year and I see them winning their final conference series against PC 2-1. And if it was not for the Longwood series GW would feel a little more comfortable going into two very very tough series.

Well, after losing two of three at HPU, we are at 9-11 while both CSU and PC are at 10-11, tied for seventh. Pretty simple, we must beat PC two of three next weekend to get in the tourney or we are sitting home, which, with our talent, would be totally inexcusable.

This weekend will be decided by decisions made and execution at the plate which is what decided this past weekend. Another weekend of poor decisions and lack of offense will start the summer early.

We had a 1 run lead going into the bottom of the 11th, gave up a double, then proceeded to walk 4 BATTERS OUT OF 5 TO LOSE THE GAME. Unfortunately, our relief pitching just continues to be inconsistent at best and I'll agree, the decisions that have been made by our manager in the third base coaching box have been very high risk, low percentage forcing-the-action ones all year that have erased way too many baserunners from scoring position.
Yes, it would be an eye-opener if we don't make the tourney, but that's a discussion I sincerely hope we don't have... as has been stated, we must win 2 out of 3 Thurs - Sat vs. PC to earn a spot.

Tough weekend for sure. In defense of relief pitching I will say this. Why do you send in your SR closer when you are down 3-1 to start the 8th? Then in the 10th after you tied the game in 9th 3-3 and with two outs and bases loaded bring in FR (who happened to be only person warming up in pen and had just pitched 3 innings lights out in less than 24 hours previously) with essentially your season on the line. Fortunately to his credit he gets the third out just like he did the night before when he came in to pitch against a batter that already had an 0-2 count on him (never look a gift horse in the mouth). Then you go up a run in top 11th and again with no one in the pen send the FR back out there in an away conference game that possibly decides your fate for the tournament. He gives up a double (no body in the pen) then sac bunt (no body in the pen) walks a batter (no body in the pen) walks another batter (one LH headed to pen from dugout) walks another batter to tie score, LH comes in after throwing 4-5 warm up pitches in pen after sitting in dugout for 3 hours and walks in winning run (no one in pen). I agree relief pitching inconsistent but I think any staff would be inconsistent with as little work as some of these guys have gotten and always wondering what's happening next.

" nobody in the pen" getting ready really says about all you need to know about any tactical approach we have late in games. Almost a carbon copy of the loss at UNCW, unfortunately.
But this is baseball, and all will be well if we take at least 2 from PC. At least look on the bright side - the final series of the year is all or nothing, should make for some exciting and tense ball in Boiling Springs...

Furman scored 7 in the 1st and beat GW 8-5 this evening. Not exactly the definition of good mojo heading into this season-defining series against PC.

GW just beat PC 4-2. DH Friday since they have moved Saturday's game up due to rain threat. Get a split tomorrow and we're in.

Great start to this critical series vs. PC. Soph Righty Matt Fraudin K's 11 and allows just 4 hits for the complete game victory.
GO Runnin' Bulldogs!
