This is an absolutely boneheaded move. I understand fully wanting to expand internet presence, etc., but to absolutely get rid of an over-the-air radio presence, and a strong FM signal at that? Someone please name me one, just one, other school that plays at least FCS level football and D-1 level basketball that has ZERO over-the-air radio broadcasting. This just in, and the pinhead Manning probably doesn't have a clue, but the Big South Network will be free this fall, meaning free streaming of video with audio overlapping it from the home broadcast. Nobody is going to tune in on the internet for audio only from wgwg.com when they can get video, as well as audio, from the Big South for free. Terrible. www.shelbystar.com/news/local/changes-coming-to-wgwg-radio-station-1.165585

gwebb1994 are you sure you are a GWU fan? Seems to me that you do a lot of complaining about everything GWU related?

gwebb1994 are you sure you are a GWU fan? Seems to me that you do a lot of complaining about everything GWU related? Alumnus, fan, and donor. This move makes zero sense, and since few outside of the Boiling Springs Metropolitan Area would know about it, I figured it worthy of discussion on the 'general' thread, since it does directly relate to the athletic program. Just how are you going to stimulate local interest at all with zero radio presence? We have one of the better play-by-play people at our level in Fabian, relegating his efforts to just the internet is poor. How many in the crowd, especially during football games, listen to the radio on an earpiece? Shoots that down as well. Like I stated before, I understand the need to be more on the edge with new technology, especially internet-related, but to mothball a longstanding tradition immediately during the process boggles the mind. Perhaps our athletic department can find some radio outlet to broadcast G-W athletics, but the choices around these parts are slim and none, and all are committed already to other schools/networks.

I live outside the BSMA, and I listened to Fabian religiously thru WGWG over the internet feed. I'll miss that. He is one great talent IMO. Hopefully he'll be doing audio with the new deal.
On the other side, all baseball games will be streamed free, with 3 video cams and live audio, much like Clemson for instance does for all their home baseball games. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fabian is still going to give play by play for GWU games, but it will be through wgwg online radio. The only change will be that you cannot tune into 88.3 over your radio and listen to the games.
Not that big of a loss. Just turn on your computer or download tunein radio app.
It will be nice to have the big south network for FREE in all sports.

Absolutely. I was a good move by the conference to make everything free.
I just hope when Limestone gets their football program fired up next fall that we don't lose Fabian. He already does some hoops for them and has the strong Gaffney ties with the radio station down there and the Indians.

Well, the mothballing ensues on January 27th. A damned shame. I challenge anyone to find any other D-1 or FCS football program with zero over the air radio presence.
Watch all of our events on bigsouthsports.com for sure, I'm not giving the lame-assed internet radio effort any hits.

Last GW athletic event over the radio this evening. Guess Noel Manning can do his little movie review circle jerk over the internet only from now on.

OK, we know good and well people in the know lurk around here. Someone explain the deal now with WRZM, according to Wiki, owned by Gardner-Webb University, Inc.? Did our big deal to sell the signal fall through, or did common sense enter in and allow GW to keep hold of it? Listening to hoops games, especially in the tourney, was nice. It makes too much sense for GW to keep it, even if for just a public service to Cleveland and Rutherford Counties if emergency management of either needed to use it for information distribution, etc. I hope it stays.
