Heard the same thing Elcid. I hope it's a rumor too. Was hoping for no less than a DII, but I guess it's better than no game at all.

I'd rather play ten games than another pud.
If the sole reason for scheduling it is to have a Dickerson family reunion, that isn't cool. We left the NAIA and NCAA D-2 for a reason.

This issue of scheduling has become an annual issue. I can't fathom why with the SOCON, CAA, MEAC, OVC, Patriot, Pioneer and even IVY leagues why we have to constantly chase down games and end up with D2's or NAIA schools on the schedule. This has plagued G-Dubb 3 of the last 3 years and has also affected other programs in the Big South as well, CSU and PC come to mind.
One thing that we need is to add another member to the conference for football. That would eliminate the 5th out of conference game. The second thing is develop repetitive rivalry games against the likes of WCU, Wofford, Furman, Elon, Campbell, Davidson, etc. Absent success along those lines, playing a D2 out of the SAC would be preferrable to playing a NAIA program regardless of who the coach there may be.
G-Dubb is putting more money in to the program to end up with this kind of schedule is akin to quail hunting with a bazooka. It sure doesn't help your program get better and with the automatic bid to the playoffs for the conference champ it doesn't make sense for the overall record either.

I agree with everything you have just said. What I do hope is that the coaching change will help that. People say its who ya know, thats not true ,its who knows you back that counts. Hopefully there are some contacts that can start being used. However this year was kinda late for trying to get a good opponent. Lets hope the trend changes but will definately have to wait till next year to find out.

Bethune Cookman, NC A&T, Howard, Morgan State, Robert Morris, Holy Cross, Davidson, Dayton, Alabama State, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State, Prairie View and Texas Southern all currently have an open date on 9/24....but we take Lambuth for a family reunion?
If we are going to play FCS-level football, let's schedule FCS level opponents and above at EVERY opportunity.

thanks coach! Why in the world would you schedule an NAIA school? Because of daddy?!?!?! GWU does not deserve this! Schools with open date on Sept.24: Bethune Cookman 9/24 Howard 9/24 Morgan St 9/24 Robert Morris 9/24 Holy Cross 9/24 Davidson 9/24 Dayton 9/24 Alabama St 9/24 Alcorn St 9/24 Jackson St 9/24 Miss Valley St 9/24 Prairie View 9/24 Texas Southern 9/24

GWU1977 - Would love to see either Davidson, Holy Cross or Bethune Cookman in that order in lieu of NAIA Lambuth. Davidson seems like a natural fit for a home and home with G-Dubb hosting the first game this season, Holy Cross has an excellent tradition and would make for a trip to/thru Boston and Bethune Cookman gets us a potential home and home with a future trip to Florida. The other options are not as appealing but still better than a gimme NAIA game which due to family ties will not allow our guys to run the score up and thus prevents our bench from getting an opportunity to gain some experience. We are thin depth wise at certain spots so if we get the chance to get some guys some reps then we should try to do it even if it means hurting some feelings on the opposing sidelines.

Lambuth beat upstart Georgia State last year in the Georgia Dome, so they are no gimmie. Last year, G-W only beat D2 Brevard by two touchdowns. With the opening month, games with Brevard and at Ohio and at Wake Forest in back to back weeks, the Lambuth game will give the program a chance to heal up before the remaining FCS schedule. The Ohio and Wake Forest games are money games with the Lambuth game in a perfect spot with opportunities to play well and hopefully build some confidence! I understand Lambuth is a NAIA school but they will show up to play and play hard just as G-W will show up at FBS Ohio and Wake Forest.

gwu0294 - I agree with you in 3 respects. 1st, there is no such thing in sports competition as a gimme, I clearly misspoke because you have to show up and play the game each time out; 2nd, I agree that Lambuth is a proven NAIA program with their win over Ga State last season; and 3rd, a little less load after back to back against the likes of Ohio and Wake Forest is not a bad thing.
However, I would look to take the 24th as our bye week after the Wake game and find a FCS game for our remaining open date time slot. You won't find Liberty, Stony Brook or Coastal in our conference or SOCON or CAA teams playing NAIA programs regardless of who they played the week before. If GWU wants to get where we want to go, there is really no reason to play a NAIA school. There is little to gain, much to lose and it doesn't fit with the vision of where we want our program to be. If our Running Bulldogs want to run with the Big Dogs in our conference and even the bigger dogs in the SOCON, CAA and the rest of the FCS we have to play em and learn how to beat em every chance we get. Playing a NAIA is a lost opportunity in that regard. And lest I forget, welcome to the board. It's refreshing to see so many new posters here.

Yes, I agree, we need to play the best to beat the best but for some reason G-W has a difficult time obtaining home and home series with FCS programs. Here's hoping the the upcoming season is a great success and the football schedule will improve year to year. In the meantime, let's welcome Brevard and Lambuth to Spangler Stadium as our Runnin' Bulldogs build momentum and experience in the thin positions heading into FCS play!

I wonder why no official announcement hasn't been made yet about the schedule. Could G-W be rethinking the Lambuth game perhaps?

94,
I have reached the conclusion that there is a concern by the AD to not file news reports about sports that are not in season when there are stories to report about teams that are in season - or, there is a fear that if we report football news then other teams will have some kind of an advantage over us.
Otherwise, a spring football schedule should have been reported long ago. By now, we should know when the Spring Game is going to be. [If you want people to get excited about our football program, they have to know what the significant dates are. The Spring Game is a significant date. It also will happen during the best weather of the year when people are thinking about the beach, etc... You have to let people know when this will happen so they can make plans to attend.]
Although the website has been updated to show our new coaching staff, there has been no press release to inform the Bulldog Club of this development. This email should have been sent to Bulldog Club members long ago.
I've said it before and it doesn't get any traction. For less than $10 per month, I can know what players are wearing yellow jerseys when the Gamecocks practice [admittedly, too much information]. I will also receive reports about each QB's completion percentages for each practice. If our administration wants us to get excited about athletic programs, they need to give us some better information.
Go Runnin' Bulldogs!

G-W is taking away any real incentive to be in the Bulldog Club anymore, even if you fork over just $100 a year. They always have dragged ass on getting schedules out for any sport...I basically pieced together the recent basketball schedule from other sites and word of mouth. Sad.
