Obviously, Coach Dickerson is going to have his hands full for the next couple of weeks as he tackles the important tasks that he needs to make decisions on. Assistant coaching hires has to be at the top of his list of things to do. All of the assistants [except Coach Windham and Coach Pizzo] were present during the press conference yesterday and all are anxiously awaiting their opportunity to meet with Coach Dickerson. I'm confident several will be retained. I just don't know how long this process is going to take. It will also be interesting to see who takes on the coordinator roles on O and D.

Were Coach Windham and Pizzo absent because they were out recruiting, or should we read something more into it? Just curious?
Thanks for the info elcid!

For what it is worth, both Pizzo and Windham's profiles have been taken down off of gwusports.com.

Typically what is seen from football programs is that the OC and DC are usually the Head Coaches "guys." Very rarely will you see a new HC keep the old OC and DC. So, essentially the people who will be kept will be position coaches.

So. It sounds like Coach Dickerson has retained Coach Cunningham (LBs and Recruiting Coordinator), Coach Godinez (DL), and Coach Chris Foster (RBs). I have heard Coach G may move to DBs. If that is true, we need coaches at the DL, OL, and WR positions. We also need to fill OC, DC and ST spots. Of course, Coach D is a well respected WR coach. I have not heard him express where he plans to work in addition to his duties as HC.
It is going to be interesting to follow this process over the next couple of weeks.

Any more news on Coordinators and Position Coaches? I would expect that by the end of this week that some if not all of those spots should be filled.

Welcome to Coach Q - our new dedicated football strength and conditioning coach. Coach Q hails from Ole Miss where he was involved with their S&C Staff. Hopefully, this will help our team alleviate their plethora of injuries in the future and help us avoid our recent late season swoons. I am hearing that the workouts are much more physically demanding than we are accustomed to. Sounds like Coach Dickerson's SEC background is going to pay dividends for GW.

From footballscoop.com - Gardner-Webb: We are hearing that Garden City CC offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach Pete Darnell has accepted the offensive coordinator job at Gardner-Webb.
Here are some notes from the presser when he took the Garden City job. [His resume consisting of working in a number of different offenses, picking up different schemes was one of the main points attracting Aslin to Darnell's coaching.
"With losing a guy like coach Hill we wanted to find someone who would be able to slide right in and get to work," Aslin said. "The thing with coach Darnell is that he's worked in a multitude of offense's and so there's a lot of different things he's going to be able to bring in. He brings in a lot of versatility."
Darnell said he plans to run a multiple offense. He said he won't be afraid to run different formations.
"You're going to see a lot of different formations," Darnell said. "Sometimes we'll have like four receivers, then the next thing we'll have is two tight ends. That's really how I want to do it. Like most teams we want to be very balanced with our run and pass."]
From Garden City's website:
Pete Darnell-Offensive Coordinator
Pete Darnell is in his first year as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Garden City Community College. Darnell comes to GCCC after a stint as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator at the University of Northern Colorado. During his time at UNC, Darnell assisted with an offense that was ranked in the top 25 nationally in passing and produced an All-Big Sky Conference quarterback.
Prior to coaching at UNC, Darnell has had a wealth of coaching experience including a stint in the Jayhawk Conference. He has coached at Tarleton State University in Texas, Missouri State University, East Central University in Oklahoma, and Ft. Scott Community College. During his coaching tenure Darnell has had the opportunity to coach many great players, including Greg Cross, the Jayhawk Conference 2nd team all-confernce quarterback at Ft. Scott Community College.
Prior to his coaching career, Darnell enjoyed an outstanding career as a quarterback at East Central University in Ada, OK. He was the leading passer in the Lone Star Conference in 2002 as well as an All-Conference quarterback that year. He owns seven school records for passing and offense at East Central University. He played at East Central University for his father Dennis Darnell who is a long time football coach himself.
Hmmmmm... might we see a fullback in GW's future? I guess we'll get something official next week. See you then.

Looked at an old profile of Darnell on the Northern Colorado site....stated he got his Bachelors degree in 2004, which means he might be 30. An OC like him can really relate to young players/recruits....should be interesting.

Ran in to Coach Godinez in Winston-Salem this afternoon while picking up some Wings for the Superbowl. Apparently his inlaws live in the Winston-Salem area. He indicated that the staff is excited and looking forward to the new future for G-Dubb football. I believe we will hear news this week concerning more new staffing in our program for the open position coach spots. Hopefully recruiting will end up well all things considered and then it's time to get busy with Spring Ball. We will be bigger, we will be stronger, we will be better conditioned and we'll be more intense and focused because the new HC won't accept anything else.
